Want to have fun while getting your CEU’s? Spend two days with Pete Whitridge exploring the physical and emotional aspects of working with clients who’ve had joints replaced.
You will learn effective strategies for helping your clients heal.
• Refine your touching skills and deepen your knowledge of anatomy
• Gain confidence working with joint replacements
• Teach your clients to work with you during therapy
• Slow down, focus your attention, be more effective with less effort
•Help your clients reduce pre-surgery anxiety and improve post-surgery
outcomes
Pete will explain a timeline of joint replacement surgeries from pre-surgical education, day of surgery requirements, and post-surgical rehabilitation concepts. We will explore how therapists can use their knowledge and skills to support successful, positive client outcomes.
Massage therapists often feel confused about joint replacements asking questions such as, “Should I work on the joint area? Can I offer range of motion movements of the replaced joint? When should I begin working on the scar? Is it safe to offer these interventions to joint replacement clients?”
We will explore these excellent questions and so much more. You will see and feel various joint appliances, review the surgical techniques, and understand the complex needs of clients who have had singular or multiple joint replacements. The class will include hands-on manual skills and video presentations about joint anatomy and procedures. You will receive lots of bodywork, learn new ways to handle clients with replaced joints, and reconnect with fellow massage therapists. You will leave this class with new skills and confidence in helping your clients be pain free!
