Florida massage therapists must renew their licenses by August 31 of every odd-numbered year (2025, 2027, etc.). If this is your first time renewing, or you’re not sure what CE hours you need, this guide is for you.
Licensed After June 1, 2025?
If you were licensed within 90 days of the renewal deadline and your license shows an expiration date of August 31, 2027, you’re already set!
-
No CE required
-
No payment due
-
No action needed this cycle
First-Time License Renewal
If you were licensed between September 1, 2023 and June 1, 2025, you’re a first-time renewer.
You need:
-
1 hour of CE for every month you’ve been licensed, including:
-
2 hours in Preventing Medical Errors
-
1 hour in Human Trafficking
-
For example, if you were licensed for 10 months, you need 10 total CE hours (including Preventing Medical Errors and Human Trafficking).
These hours do not need to be live or hands-on.
Make sure your CE hours are:
-
From Board-approved providers
-
Reported to CE Broker before August 31
Full Renewal (24-Hour Requirement)
If you were licensed before September 1, 2023, and this isn’t your first renewal, you must complete 24 hours of CE, including:
-
2 hours: Preventing Medical Errors
-
2 hours: Florida Laws & Rules
-
2 hours: Professional Ethics
-
1 hour: Human Trafficking
-
12 hours: Live, hands-on or interactive technique-based education
-
5 hours: General (live or online)
The 12 live hours must be “relevant to and focused on massage therapy techniques or the practice of massage therapy,” delivered in person or through real-time interactive platforms (not pre-recorded). It is always smart to double-check that the class you take meets this requirement.
