Have you recently been laid off?\u00a0 Changed jobs?\u00a0 Got divorced?\u00a0 If any of these life events (or a few others) have happened since you filed your 2015 tax return, then your real-world\u00a0financial picture may be different than what appears on\u00a0your financial aid application (FAFSA).\u00a0 Maybe you\u2019re only making half of what you did in 2015.\u00a0 Maybe you\u2019re unemployed.\u00a0 Maybe you\u2019re now separated or divorced which has resulted in a loss of income for your household.\u00a0 Whatever the situation, your financial aid office might be able to help you.<\/p>\n
The Department of Education allows Financial Aid Administrators to make\u00a0a Professional Judgment\u00a0 (\u201cPJ\u201d) for students who meet certain criteria.\u00a0 At SSMT, to request a PJ you need to fill out a\u00a0Professional Judgment Request and a Verification Worksheet<\/em>, and provide us with documentation that proves your change in circumstance from the information on your FAFSA.\u00a0 We can then analyze the situation and possibly make manual adjustments to the information on your FAFSA that could reduce your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and increase your financial aid awards.<\/p>\n Every situation is different.\u00a0 Not all students will qualify for a PJ.
