{"id":2059,"date":"2016-09-30T14:19:28","date_gmt":"2016-09-30T14:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ssmt.wpengine.com\/?p=33"},"modified":"2026-02-06T12:57:16","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T17:57:16","slug":"applying-for-federal-financial-aid-just-got-simpler","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sarasotaschoolofmassagetherapy.edu\/es\/2016\/09\/30\/applying-for-federal-financial-aid-just-got-simpler\/","title":{"rendered":"Applying for Federal Financial Aid Just Got Simpler!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are two new important changes to the 2017-2018 application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).\u00a0 Both should make filling out the application easier and give you the ability to see your entire financial aid package sooner!<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-34 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ssmt.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Student-Aid-App-41144849-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Student Aid Application\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sarasotaschoolofmassagetherapy.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Student-Aid-App-41144849-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sarasotaschoolofmassagetherapy.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Student-Aid-App-41144849-scaled-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/sarasotaschoolofmassagetherapy.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Student-Aid-App-41144849-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sarasotaschoolofmassagetherapy.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Student-Aid-App-41144849-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sarasotaschoolofmassagetherapy.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Student-Aid-App-41144849-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/sarasotaschoolofmassagetherapy.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Student-Aid-App-41144849-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>First, the 2017-2018 financial aid award year doesn\u2019t start until July 1, 2017, but now you can fill out your FAFSA as soon as <em>October 1, 2016<\/em>.\u00a0 We used to have to wait until January!\u00a0 This means you can see your entire financial aid picture sooner.<\/p>\n<p>The second change is that you\u2019ll use your <em>2015 tax return<\/em> <!--more-->for your 2017-2018 FAFSA.\u00a0 You\u2019ll actually use the same tax return for next year that you used for your 2016-2017 FAFSA.\u00a0 This is great news, because now you don\u2019t have to wait until you\u2019ve filed your 2016 taxes to fill out your FAFSA.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the start date you choose for the massage therapy program, you may have part of your financial aid coming from one award year and part coming from the following award year.\u00a0 We refer to these as \u201ccrossover classes.\u201d\u00a0 So if you want to start the massage therapy program with any of our \u201ccrossover classes\u201d, you can now be certain of your entire financial aid picture before you start school, as long as you\u2019ve filed your 2015 tax return.\u00a0 Some students had to wait until they had filed their most recent tax return, complicating the process and making everyone unsure of the exact amount of aid expected.<\/p>\n<p>You can start here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fafsa.ed.gov\">www.fafsa.ed.gov<\/a>.\u00a0 You\u2019ll need to create an FSA ID if you don\u2019t already have one ( a simple process), and all you need is your social security number and a valid email address to create one.\u00a0 Then you\u2019ll need your 2015 tax return, any untaxed income information (things like child support received or money paid on your behalf), and asset information (the balances of your bank and investment accounts).\u00a0 If you don\u2019t have your 2015 tax return, many people can use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to import their taxes into the FAFSA directly from the IRS.\u00a0 SSMT\u2019s school code for the FAFSA is 016937, and you can always search the database by school name if you forget our school code.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Education has made some great changes to next year\u2019s FAFSA that will streamline the process for both students and schools, and we\u2019re always here to help if you need it!<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are two new important changes to the 2017-2018 application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).\u00a0 Both should make filling out the application easier and give you the ability to see your entire financial aid package sooner!
