This is a review course of the origin, insertion, action and surrounding structures of the major muscles of the upper extremity. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the structures, symptoms of dysfunction, and how to alleviate these symptoms through the application of massage therapy.
Objectives of the course include:
• The importance of anatomical knowledge and outline of the class.
• Review of bony structures of the shoulder girdle, arm, forearm, and hand.
• Review of the origin, insertion, and action of major muscles of the upper extremity.
• Review of neural innervation and endangerment sites of the brachial plexus.
• Assessing musculoskeletal pain and probable causes.
• Creating an appropriate massage protocol.
• Re-assessing client progress.
• Massage application for the shoulder, arm, and hand.
Requirements
In order to receive Continuing Education credits for this class, students must have a current Massage License.
Evaluation
Students will be evaluated for comprehension of this course by a passing score of no less than 70% on their exam.
Materials
Students will need note taking materials, loose, stretchy clothing, lubricant, face cradle cover, and a sheet set in order to participate fully in this course.
